Trade plate delivery and collection and delivery are the same driven job

Dealers type trade plate delivery. Controllers type collection and delivery. Auction buyers type vehicle movements. Three searches. One product, if the product is OVM: a driver in a roadworthy car or van, on our plates, from the address it sits to the address that has to receive it.

Why the same work has three names

This is not the truck question. Loaded versus driven is already on trade plate delivery versus a transporter. This post is the naming mess inside the driven job, because that is what people actually Google before they book.

Trade plate delivery names the method. Plates on, engine on, door to door. Collection and delivery names the two handovers. Vehicle movements is the motor-trade shorthand that also gets used for low-loaders, which is how bookings go wrong.

OVM only does the driven version. Valid MOT. One registration. Photographs before the wheels turn as transport. A signature at the far end. Digital proof when the job closes.

If you landed here from a C&D search because you care about the file closing, the proof page is door to door collection and delivery. If you landed here from a movements search, the method page is vehicle movements. Use either URL. Do not book twice.

The explainer for the plates phrase is already live on what trade plate delivery actually is. This page is the comparison you type when two sales people are arguing about which supplier product to put on the purchase order.

One driven product

Trade plate delivery names the method. Collection and delivery names the two handovers. Same plates.

Not the truck question

Loaded versus driven is a different page. This post is the naming mess inside the driven job.

What is not a different product

A dealer yard collection is still collection. A customer drive is still delivery. An auction collection is still both, with a gate in the way. Changing the noun does not change the plates.

What does change the afternoon:

Those are job types. They are not a second company. Put the job type in the notes so the quote matches the time at each end.

Site transfer versus customer door is split on site transfers and retail handovers. Auction versus dealer yard is split on the auction hub. Nationwide versus "are you only Glasgow" is coverage. None of those are C&D-versus-plates. They are the same plates, pointed at a different door.

  • Who is allowed to release the vehicle.
  • Who is allowed to sign for it.
  • Whether a walkaround is part of the handover.
  • Whether a compound has to confirm release before we dispatch.

Where the searches diverge, in practice

People who search collection and delivery usually want proof. They have been burned by a "left on the drive" photo. They want both ends recorded. They want one file, not a WhatsApp trail. That is a reasonable want. It is already how every OVM job closes. The blog walk-through is proof of collection and proof of delivery.

People who search trade plate delivery usually want speed and legality. Can it leave today. Does it need an MOT. Whose plates. Ours. The vehicle still has to be legal to drive. Plates do not invent an MOT.

People who search vehicle movements often have not decided driven or loaded. If it will not start, do not send this form. If it will, this is the form.

C&D wants the file

Both ends recorded. Digital proof when the job closes. That is already how every OVM job closes.

Plates want the method

Can it leave today. Does it need an MOT. Whose plates. Ours. The vehicle still has to be legal to drive.

How to book it without picking the wrong noun

Ignore the noun. Send the registration and both postcodes. Say, in one line, where it is and where it has to go.

"Collect from our prep, deliver to the satellite, duty manager at both ends."

"Collect from Manheim Shotts after release, deliver to our Glasgow roof."

"Retail handover, customer will be in after four, walkaround."

The office in Glasgow will price the driven job. Fuel separate. No account required. Most quotes within the hour during working hours.

If the vehicle cannot legally be driven, we will not relabel it as C&D and take it anyway. A transporter is then the right call. We will say so.

Collection and delivery is the same driven job

Both ends recorded. Digital proof when the job closes. The plates phrase and the C&D phrase buy the same movement at OVM.

Questions

Common questions

Prefer to speak to someone? Call the team.

Is collection and delivery a different service from trade plate delivery at OVM?

No. Same driven product. Collection and delivery on this site is the door-to-door proof trail. Trade plate delivery is the method. You are not choosing between two fleets.

Why do other firms sell them as separate lines?

Some firms run trucks and also run drivers. They split the menu so a non-runner does not land on plates. OVM only runs the plates side. If you need the truck, we will tell you to go and get one. We will not invent a C&D truck product to keep the booking.

Does "vehicle collection" mean you only collect and I arrange the last mile?

No. Collection is one end of the same job. Delivery is the other. There is no depot in the middle for you to complete. Door to door is the product.

If I already have a C&D supplier for fleets, can I still book a one-off on plates?

Yes. No account is needed to ask. One registration, two postcodes, the date. Say if the far end is a customer, because that changes the handover.

Which URL should I send a colleague?

Send vehicle movements if they need the method. Send vehicle collection and delivery if they need the digital proof. Send this post if they are stuck on the names. The quote widget is the same idea on each.

Ignore the noun. Send the postcodes.
