What door to door means on a real job

The driver goes to the address where the vehicle actually is. Then to the address where it has to be received. There is no depot leg for you to arrange. There is no we will leave it at a compound near you. If the collection is a dealer yard, that is the door. If the delivery is a customer's house, that is the door.

Someone at each end has to know we are coming. Unmanned collection is how a job fails before it starts. Unmanned delivery is how you get a car on a drive with no signature.

Named contacts, access codes, parking posts, alarm fobs, spare keys, charging cables: put them on the booking. The office in Glasgow would rather have too much detail than a driver in a car park ringing a number that goes to voicemail.

Proof of collection, before the wheels turn as transport

The record is taken before the vehicle is used as transport. That order matters. If you photograph after a motorway run, you have a picture of the arrival, not of what was accepted.

That is the proof of collection. It is the baseline. Pre-existing damage belongs on that document, not in an email two days later.

If collection is an auction compound, the same rule applies at the gate. You also need release confirmed before the driver is sent. That sequence is on auction collection after release.

Proof of delivery, when someone actually receives it

At delivery the driver records the vehicle again, captures a signature from the person receiving it and hands over keys and whatever documents you told us to carry. That is the proof of delivery.

A retail handover adds the walkaround. A dealer compound handover adds a named person who will sign. Leave it on the back row and text me is not a POD.

If the person on the booking is not there, the driver calls the office. We do not invent a completed delivery because the postcode was right.

Why one record, not two chases

What does door to door actually mean on this service?

Collection at the address you give, delivery at the address you give. One driver, one roadworthy vehicle, trade plates. You do not complete a depot-to-depot shuttle yourself.

When is digital proof issued?

When the vehicle is handed over. Proof of collection and proof of delivery go out together when the job closes, not as two separate chases from the office. That is the point of this URL.

Do keys have to be with the vehicle?

Yes. Keys have to be at collection. OVM is not a locksmith and this is not recovery. If keys are missing, the driver stops and the office calls you.

What if the collection and delivery windows are the same afternoon a long way apart?

Distance is driven, not flown. If the window is impossible, the office will say so when you quote rather than promise a time we cannot keep.
