It is a vehicle moving between two motor traders. That covers group stock balancing, a franchise sending a car to a sister site that has the buyer, one independent buying from another and a trade in that needs collecting after the invoice.
It is different from an auction collection, as there is no compound gate or release code. Authority comes from the sending manager, the keys and whoever is named on the booking. If the car is at a BCA or Manheim site, book it as an auction job instead.
It is also different from a retail handover. The person signing at the other end is in the trade, usually a duty manager, rather than a customer expecting a walkaround. Our site transfers and retail handovers page explains both.

Why dealer groups use trade plates for single cars
A transporter can look cheaper when several cars are going the same way on a flexible date, but dealer to dealer work is rarely that neat. The sold car is at the wrong prep centre, the courtesy car is at the satellite or the trade purchase is behind another independent's lock up, and the receiving manager wants it on the forecourt tomorrow.

Internal transfers can quickly turn into internal disputes when a mark appears at the receiving end and nobody photographed the car before it left. Our digital proof settles that.
The driver records the condition, photos, keys and documents at collection, and the receiver signs at delivery. It is the same proof you get on every OVM job, and it gives both sites one agreed record without digging through old messages.
Name someone at each end who can release and receive the vehicle, and add their mobile numbers to the booking. A general branch number can leave a driver waiting outside a locked yard.

We need authority to take the vehicle, working keys, the alarm code if there is one, enough fuel or charge to reach the first filling or charging point and a valid MOT. Someone at collection should know we are coming, and someone at delivery needs to be ready to sign.
Trade plates do not replace an MOT, even if the car is due a test at the other end. If it cannot legally be driven today, it needs a transporter. The full rule is explained in can you move a car without an MOT on trade plates.
Much of this work involves Scottish dealers moving stock to or from English sites. Our office is in Glasgow, but we collect from the sending dealer and deliver to the receiving dealer, whether that is Aberdeen to Birmingham, Edinburgh to a South East satellite or two sites in the same city. Stock transfers and customer deliveries take different amounts of time at each end, so the job type helps us quote accurately. Every job is quoted individually, fuel or charging is included and there is no rate card.
You do not need an account and the price appears on screen. If the vehicle is not as described when the driver arrives, they stop and the office calls you.
Is a dealer to dealer movement the same as a retail delivery?
No. A dealer to dealer movement is stock moving between traders, with a condition record at both ends, while a retail handover takes the car to a named customer's door. Tell us which one you need when you book.
Do both dealerships have to be in the same group?
No. Group transfers are common, but one independent buying from another is booked exactly the same way. Name the sending site, the receiving site and who can release and sign for the vehicle.
Can you move several cars between the same two sites?
Yes, with each registration quoted as its own driven job on trade plates. If a larger group of cars on a flexible date would be cheaper on a transporter, the office will tell you.
What if the sending site is unmanned in the afternoon?
We need someone there to hand over the keys and let the driver record the vehicle. Arrange a time when a named person is on site so the collection can go ahead and be signed for.
Does a Scotland to England transfer need a different number?
No, everything goes through one office on 0141 459 1302. We cover England, Scotland and Wales but not Northern Ireland, so just use the instant quote with both postcodes.
