A trade licence is what DVLA charges a motor trader for the plates. It is not what OVM charges to drive a car or van between two postcodes.
The figures on this page come from the GOV.UK apply table, fetched 2 September 2026. We did not invent them. We do not publish OVM job counts, pound-per-mile rates or a movement rate card here.

The January 6-month figure is £97.35, from the same GOV.UK apply table, for January to 30 June.
Licences expire on 30 June or 31 December, from apply for a trade licence. GOV.UK says you cannot get a licence for less than 6 months or more than 12 months at a time, on that same apply page.

Download form VTL301. That is DVLA's first-licence form. It is a print-only form. You post it. You do not email it to OVM.
GOV.UK says you need motor trade insurance with the form, on apply for a trade licence. We are not going to invent extra insurance wording on top of that.
OVM already holds plates. Booking a movement does not apply for a licence in your name.
