# What trade plate delivery costs and how the quote is built

OVM does not publish a rate card for trade plate delivery. The quote covers the driven job. It looks at distance on the actual route, the vehicle, wait or release at collection and whether it is same-day or planned. There are no made-up pound figures on this page. Two postcodes start it. Instant quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.

## What sets the price

The quote is built from the two postcodes and the vehicle in front of us, not from a published rate card. Instant quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.

What sets the price What we look at How it changes the quote
Distance The driven route between the two postcodes, not a radius on a map.
Vehicle Car or van, height, fuel or charge. A high-roof van is not priced as a hatchback.
Wait and release Time at the gate or compound. An auction collection is not a keys-and-go dealer transfer.
Timing Same-day versus a planned collection. Weekend work is quoted, not assumed.
What happens at each end Leave-with-the-keys versus a retail handover with a walkaround and a signature.

## Distance is the largest factor, measured on the driven route

Mileage is the biggest single component of any quote. It is the driven route between the two postcodes rather than the distance as the crow flies. A run between neighbouring towns costs a fraction of a cross-country movement.

On short local runs a minimum charge applies. That is not padding. A driver still has to get to the collection point and get home again afterwards. On a short job that return leg is most of the working time. Above that point the price follows the distance driven.

The return leg is also why one-way distance is not the whole story. A delivery into a town with good rail links is cheaper to turn around than one that leaves a driver stranded, which is why the coverage pages on this site list rail access alongside the roads.

- ### The real route, not a radius

Quoted on the distance a driver actually covers between the two postcodes, including the roads available to them.
- ### One price, fixed at the quote

The figure you accept is the figure you are invoiced. There are no discovered extras on completion.

## How quickly you need it moved

How quickly you need the vehicle moved changes the quote. A movement scheduled a few days out can be planned into a driver's existing work. Same-day and next-morning collections cost more because they take a driver off other work at short notice.

Weekend and bank holiday collections may carry a premium, depending on who is available. If timing is flexible, say so when you ask; it is usually the easiest way to bring a quote down.

Batches price better than singles for the same reason. Several vehicles on one route let us chain the work and share the repositioning cost across the jobs instead of loading it onto one.

- ### Urgent dispatch

Same-day collection where a driver can be diverted to it. Priced for the disruption it causes to their day. Quoted before we commit.
- ### Scheduled and grouped

Book ahead or move several vehicles on one route and the repositioning cost is shared rather than carried by a single job.

## Wait time and release at the collection end

Wait time at collection is part of the quote, whether or not the wheels are turning. A driver standing at an auction gate, waiting for a compound to process a release or holding for a named contact is still on the job.

Auction and compound collections are the usual case. We confirm the release code, buyer reference and gate procedure with the site before anyone is dispatched. If the vehicle is not ready, the wait happens on the clock rather than as a surprise at the barrier. The storage charges keep running while it does.

A planned collection, where the site knows we are coming and the paperwork is already cleared, costs less of a driver's day than one that turns into an hour in the yard. Say if the vehicle is at auction, behind a booking window or needs a specific person with keys. That way the quote matches the collection as it actually is.

- ### Release before dispatch

Codes and gate procedure checked with the site first, so a driver is not sent to wait on paperwork that has not arrived.
- ### Auction and compound collections

Waiting at the gate is working time. Tell us the vehicle is in a compound when you ask, so the quote includes that collection.

## The vehicle and what is needed at each end

The vehicle type and what happens at each end change the quote as well as the miles. Standard cars, estates and small SUVs all price the same way. Larger vehicles cost more to move. Vans, motorhomes and heavy SUVs use more fuel and sit differently on the insurance. A high-roof van cannot take every route a car can.

Electric vehicles are quoted on the charging the route needs rather than the mileage alone, because a charging stop is driver time whether or not the vehicle is moving.

What happens at the ends matters as much as the middle. A dealer-to-dealer transfer where someone hands over keys is a straightforward job. A retail handover, where the driver walks a customer round the vehicle, goes through the V5C and waits for a signature, takes longer and is priced accordingly.

A vehicle that is not roadworthy cannot be quoted at all. Every movement is driven, so it has to be legal and ready for the road. If it is not, a transporter is the right answer and we will tell you so rather than take the booking.

- ### Cars and small SUVs

The standard case. The basis most quotes are built from.
- ### Vans and larger vehicles

Quoted individually. Height, weight and fuel all change the cost of the same distance.

In practice

## Why there is no rate card

There is no rate card because two jobs over the same miles are not the same job. A stock transfer between two dealer sites and a retail handover at a customer's door can cover the same mileage and take a driver a different amount of time. Pricing the route rather than the postcode pair is the only way that comes out fair to either of us.

## What trade plate delivery is pricing

The quote covers the driven job, not the cost of buying trade plates from DVLA. It reflects distance on the driven route, how soon it has to move, wait time at the gate and whether the unit is a car or a van. Two postcodes give a figure. It is the same product nationwide.

## What this quote is not

OVM does not sell trade plates. The plates sit on the driver. You are paying for the movement. We collect, drive and hand over, and you get digital proof when the job closes. If you want a number for a specific registration, use the quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.

How it runs

## What actually happens

Four steps. Most of them are ours rather than yours.

- 01

### Send the registration and both postcodes

Plus roughly when it needs to move. That is normally enough to price it.
- 02

### We price the actual route

Mileage, timing, vehicle and what is needed at each end, checked against driver availability.
- 03

### You get a fixed figure

Including any weekend or urgency premium, stated before you commit to anything.
- 04

### The price does not move

What you accepted is what you are invoiced when the job is done. Instant Quote

 Instant Quote0141 459 1302

 Is there a minimum charge?

Yes. Short local movements are subject to a minimum that covers the driver getting to the vehicle and getting home again, which on a short job is most of the working time. Beyond that the price follows the distance driven.

 Do larger vehicles cost more?

Vans, motorhomes and heavy SUVs can carry a supplement for fuel and insurance. Height or weight sometimes rules out the quickest route. Standard cars, estates and small SUVs all price on the same basis.

How quickly can I get a quote?

Send the registration, both postcodes and the dates, and the Instant Quote shows the price on screen. If the job is urgent, ring the office.

Are there weekend or bank holiday surcharges?

There can be, depending on driver availability. Any premium is included in the figure you are quoted rather than added afterwards.

Does waiting at auction or for a release change the price?

It can. Time at the gate is working time, even when the vehicle is not moving. We confirm release details before dispatch so that wait is priced as part of the job rather than discovered on site. There is no separate rate card for it. It is built into the quote you see on this page.

Is driven delivery cheaper than a transporter?

For a single vehicle it usually is, because a transporter charges for a slot and needs a minimum load to run. For five or more vehicles going the same way on a flexible timescale, a transporter often wins. We will say which one your job actually suits.

Is trade plate delivery cheaper than a transporter?

On a roadworthy car or van, usually yes, because you are not paying for a truck and a slot. On a non-runner you cannot use this product at all. Compare both on the trade plate versus transporter page, then quote the driven job here.

### How long trade plate delivery takes

A trade plate delivery is usually next working day nationwide once the car or van is ready and the release is done. Same day is possible on shorter runs if a driver can reach an open gate. The clock starts when the unit can leave, not when the quote is sent. Quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.

### Is trade plate delivery insured?

Yes. Trade plate delivery with OVM is insured. We carry motor trade road risk while the vehicle is driven on our plates. Condition is photographed before it moves. You do not add our driver to your own policy. Instant quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.

### When a trade plate driver beats a transporter. When it does not

Trade plate delivery beats a transporter when the car or van is roadworthy with a valid MOT and needs to leave now rather than wait for a deck. A transporter is a loaded truck. Use a truck when it cannot be driven or several units travel as one load. Quote here or call 0141 459 1302.

### What paperwork is needed for trade plate delivery

Less than people expect. The trade plates, the insurance and the condition reporting are ours to deal with. What we need from you is the authority to take the vehicle and someone who knows we are coming.
