# Site transfers and retail handovers on trade plates

A site transfer and a retail handover both use trade plates. They are not the same afternoon's work. OVM drives a roadworthy car or van between dealer locations, or to a named customer's door.

OVM Ltd, Companies House SC834621. Digital proof of collection and delivery provided. 0141 459 1302.

## Site to site is stock, with a record

Site to site is the quiet job. Prep to satellite. Auction intake to the selling roof. Group stock from the branch that has it to the branch that sold it. The customer never sees the driver.

That does not mean the condition record is optional. Internal transfers become internal disputes the moment a bumper mark appears at the receiving end and nobody photographed it at the sending end. The driver records the vehicle before it leaves your first site, drives it on plates and captures the handover at the second. The receiving manager signs. You get the digital proof. The argument has evidence or it has nothing.

Named contacts at both branches matter. A driver in a yard with nobody on the WhatsApp group is not flexible. It is a car sitting behind a locked gate.

If several cars are moving between the same two roofs, they are still separate driven jobs unless the office has planned them that way. A transporter may be cheaper for a true volume load on a flexible date. We will say so. The product choice sits on [when trade plate delivery is the right move](https://ovmtransport.com/trade-plate-vehicle-delivery).

## Retail handover is your forecourt, at their door

Retail handover is the noisy job. The driver is standing in for your sales team. They need to arrive presentable, find the right person, walk the vehicle, hand over keys and documents and capture a signature on the device.

That is not a kerbside abandon. If the customer is not in, the job is not done. Tell us the delivery window you have promised them. Tell us if there is a V5C conversation, spare keys, charging cables, or a parking post. The office would rather hear it on the booking than in a complaint after the driver has left.

Mileage is recorded at both ends. Photographs are taken at both ends. The customer signs for what they received. Digital proof of collection and delivery provided, which is how the dealership closes the file without chasing a driver for the photos from Tuesday.

The walk-through of that paperwork, in order, is on [vehicle collection and delivery with POC and POD](https://ovmtransport.com/vehicle-collection-delivery). Cover on the movement is motor trade road risk.

## How to tell the office which job you mean

Say it in plain English on the quote. Dealer to dealer, leave with the duty manager is a site transfer. Customer handover, walkaround, they will be in after 4pm is a retail handover. Collect from BCA once released, deliver to our prep is an [auction collection](https://ovmtransport.com/auction-collection) into a site transfer.

Do not write vehicle movement and assume we will guess. The price shape is different because the time at each end is different. We quote every job individually. Fuel is charged separately. There is no rate card on this page.

The operational meaning of driven rather than loaded, if anyone in the group still thinks we send a truck, is on [what a driven trade plate vehicle movement actually is](https://ovmtransport.com/vehicle-movements).

## What the dealer has to have ready

Authority to take the vehicle. Keys that work. Alarm code if there is one. Enough fuel or charge to get to the first filling or charging point. A valid MOT. A person at collection who knows we are coming.

On a retail handover, a person at delivery who knows we are coming. A phone number that actually rings. Parking that a driver can use without collecting a ticket you will then dispute.

On a group transfer, the receiving branch has to know the car is arriving. Just leave it on the back compound only works if someone will sign for it. Unmanned drops are how PDFs do not get signatures.

If the car is not legal to drive, stop. We will not take it on plates. A transporter is the right call.

## Booking it

No account is needed to ask. Registration, both postcodes, date, name, company, phone, email. Most quotes come back within the hour during working hours. The office is in Glasgow. The work is nationwide, including dealer groups whose branches are not in the same city. How that coverage actually runs is on [how OVM covers the UK from Glasgow](https://ovmtransport.com/coverage).

Dealer groups around the Glasgow hub can start from [trade plate vehicle movements in Glasgow](https://ovmtransport.com/vehicle-movements-glasgow) if the collection is a G postcode or a central belt compound, but the quote is still the same form.

## Site transfer versus a retail handover

A site transfer is stock between your roofs. A retail handover is a named customer at a door.

Same plates. Same digital proof. Different time at each end. Put which job you mean on the quote. Do not write vehicle movement and hope the office guesses.

## After release into a dealer roof

A lot sitting at BCA, Manheim or Wilsons is not on your prep until the compound actually releases it.

That collection is [auction collection after release](https://ovmtransport.com/auction-collection). The delivery into your branch is then a site transfer. One driven job if both ends are legal. Storage does not pause while the hammer email sits in a folder.

## Valid MOT on a dealer move

No valid MOT, no driven dealer job. Trade plates do not mint a test between two of your sites.

A short hop to the next roof is the same rule as a Nationwide run. If it will not drive legally, a transporter is the tool. We will say so.

## One car or van between your sites

Most dealer bookings are one registration. One collection postcode. One delivery postcode. One driver. That is [Trade Plate Vehicle Movements](https://ovmtransport.com/vehicle-movements) between two of your sites.

Several units the same way are still separate driven jobs unless the office has planned them that way. A full deck is a different product.

## When a transporter is the better dealer call

Use a transporter when the car or van cannot legally be driven, or when you have enough units going the same way on a date that can slip.

We will say that. We do not load your stock onto a truck and pretend it is plates. The long comparison sits on [when a trade plate driver beats a transporter](https://ovmtransport.com/trade-plate-delivery-vs-transporter).

## Common questions

Anything not answered here, call the team.

Site transfer or retail handover: what actually changes on the afternoon?

A site transfer is stock moving between your roofs. Condition recorded both ends. A manager signs. A retail handover puts the driver at a named customer's door with a walkaround, keys and documents. Same plates. Different time at each end. Put which job you mean on the quote. Instant quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.

Who has to be named at collection and at delivery?

Name the person who can release the vehicle and the person who can sign for it. A switchboard that does not know we are coming is not a named person. If they are not there, the driver calls the office. We do not leave the vehicle with someone who cannot take it.

Why record condition at both ends on a dealer move?

Photographs, mileage and a signature at collection and again at delivery. Site transfers argue about bumper marks. Retail handovers argue about what the customer received. Digital proof closes both. The proof trail is on [door to door collection and delivery, with proof](https://ovmtransport.com/vehicle-collection-delivery).

Does the driver stand in for our sales team on a customer delivery?

Yes. On a retail handover the driver is representing your forecourt, not dumping the car on the drive. They introduce the vehicle, talk the customer through the V5C and capture the signature. That is the afternoon you booked. Instant quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.

Can you move several units between two of our sites?

Each unit is its own driven job on trade plates. We do not load a truck with your stock. Quote each registration. If a vehicle cannot legally be driven, we will say a transporter is the better tool. Instant quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.

Do you keep the V5C or only move the vehicle?

We do not keep your V5C. On a retail handover the driver talks the customer through it and checks the details. The completed report comes back to you with the proof of delivery. Instant quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.
