# Auction release codes before a trade plate collection

Buying the lot does not get the car off the yard. Release does. A release code, buyer reference or vehicle release is the auction's instruction that this registration is cleared to leave. Until the compound confirms it, OVM will not send a trade plate driver to the gate.

## What the gate is actually checking

We collect from BCA, Manheim and Wilsons after that confirmation and only if the vehicle is roadworthy with a valid MOT. We are not a transporter. A driver at the barrier without authority is a wasted journey and storage keeps running.

Different houses name the same idea differently. BCA buyers talk about a release code. Manheim buyers print a vehicle release or gate pass from post-sale management once the lot is ready. Wilsons have their own gate language. Independents vary again. OVM does not invent a single procedure on this page. The office asks that compound what they need that day, then briefs the driver.

Three things have to match what the gate expects.

If the collector name on the booking is not the name the auction has, the driver is turned away. If payment is still bouncing, the driver is turned away. If you send a screenshot of an email that has not yet hit the compound's system, the driver is turned away. The office checks first so that argument happens on the phone, not in a queue.

The sequence around the hammer, including storage, is on [auction collection after you buy](https://ovmtransport.com/blog/auction-collection-after-you-buy). This post is the code itself: why it exists, what fails and when we dispatch.

- The lot is paid and cleared, with no finance hold still sitting on it.
- The code, reference or printed release is live for that registration.
- The named collector is the person the site will actually let through.

### Authority to leave

Release code, buyer reference, vehicle release or gate pass. The office asks that compound.

### Mismatch fails

Wrong collector name, uncleared payment or a code that has not hit their system. We check first.

[Auction collection after you buy](https://ovmtransport.com/blog/auction-collection-after-you-buy)[Auction collection hub](https://ovmtransport.com/auction-collection)

## Why we hold the booking until the site says yes

Storage is the auction's bill, not ours. It usually costs more than the driven movement if collection is late. That tempts people to send a driver "anyway" while the code is "on its way". That is how you pay for a day that moved nothing.

A driven job is one vehicle. It does not need a full deck. The only reason to wait is the gate. Once release is confirmed and the car is legal to drive, a driver can be sent for that registration. Skip the confirmation and you have a man arguing with a list he is not on.

We hold the booking. We do not hold a fantasy that the compound will "just let him through" because you are in a hurry. Auction yards are not dealer forecourts.

## What you send the office, in order

You buy. You clear payment and whatever the auction needs on the account. The site issues the release. You send us the registration, the compound, both postcodes and the release details you have. We check with the site, including that day's gate procedure. Then a driver is dispatched.

Put the code in the notes on the instant quote widget, or phone it through on 0141 459 1302 as soon as it lands. Named contacts at both ends. If the delivery is your prep, say so. If it is another dealer, say so. If it is a retail door, that is a different handover and the office needs to know.

No account is needed to ask. Most quotes come back within the hour during working hours. Fuel is charged separately. There is no rate card here.

## Roadworthy is a second gate, not a footnote

A released lot that cannot legally be driven is still not an OVM job. Trade plates do not replace a valid MOT. Salvage, CAT, non-runners and anything the compound will not release onto the public road need a transporter. We will say so rather than burn a collection slot.

Condition is still photographed at the compound before the engine is used for the journey and again at delivery. Digital proof of collection and delivery provided. That paperwork, as a close-of-job record, is already covered on [digital proof of collection and proof of delivery](https://ovmtransport.com/blog/proof-of-collection-and-proof-of-delivery). Do not treat this post as a second POC article.

The booking page for the product is [auction collection after release](https://ovmtransport.com/auction-collection). The sequence after the hammer is [auction collection after you buy](https://ovmtransport.com/blog/auction-collection-after-you-buy).

## Compounds this applies to

BCA, Manheim and Wilsons are the houses this post is for. Independent auctions exist and we will quote them when the release is real. We will not list a hundred yards and pretend each gate was verified in this copy.

If the lot is at [BCA Glasgow](https://ovmtransport.com/auction-collection-bca-glasgow) or [Manheim Shotts](https://ovmtransport.com/auction-collection-manheim-shotts), those compound pages exist so you can start from the right site. The release rule does not change because the yard is in Scotland. Glasgow is the office. The work is Nationwide. The gate is local.

In practice

## No code, no dispatch

A screenshot of an email is not a gate pass. The office confirms the release with that compound, then a driver is sent.

 Instant Quote0141 459 1302

What is a release code in plain English?

It is the auction's authority for that vehicle to leave the compound. Houses name it a release code, buyer reference, vehicle release or gate pass. Without it confirmed with the site, the gate will not let the lot out and a trade plate driver cannot finish the job.

Will you dispatch if I am "about to get" the code?

No. "About to" is not a gate pass. Send the details when the compound has actually issued them. Storage does not pause while a driver sits in the queue. The office would rather hold the booking than send someone to fail.

What if the collector name on my auction account is not the driver?

Tell the office before anyone travels. The named collector has to match what the gate expects. A mismatch is a common failed collection. We confirm it with the site. We do not invent a workaround at the barrier.

Does Manheim use the same word as BCA?

Not always. Manheim buyers often print a vehicle release from post-sale management once the lot is ready for pick-up. BCA buyers usually talk about a release code. Wilsons differ again. The office asks that compound. You still need whatever that site calls the authority to leave.

Can you collect if the lot is released but has no MOT?

No. Release and roadworthiness are separate. OVM only drives cars and vans that are legal to be on the road. If it cannot legally be driven, a transporter is the right tool and we will say so.

### Auction collection after you buy

Once the release is confirmed, OVM sends a driver to collect a roadworthy car or van from the compound. Storage charges keep running until it leaves, so we do not dispatch on a hope.

### Collecting from BCA Glasgow on trade plates

BCA Glasgow is a compound collection, not a kerbside pickup. After the hammer you still need the lot released, the vehicle legal to drive and a driver the gate will actually let through. OVM collects a roadworthy car or van from BCA Glasgow on trade plates once that release is confirmed, photographs it at the yard and drives it to the postcode you give us.

### Which auction compound to put on the booking

"It's at BCA" is not a collection address. Neither is "Manheim" or "Wilsons". Those are houses. The driver is sent to a site. Get the site wrong and you have paid for a man in the wrong queue, while storage keeps running on the lot that did not move.

### Driven collection from Manheim after release, including Shotts

There is not a compound branded "Manheim Scotland". The Scottish Manheim centre is **Manheim Shotts**, on Stane Road, Shotts, North Lanarkshire. OVM collects a roadworthy car or van from that yard on trade plates after release is confirmed, then drives it to the postcode you give us.
