# Retail Handover on Trade Plates

A retail handover is the job your sales manager is thinking about when they say "can you deliver it". Not stock. Not a compound. A named buyer, a promised window, keys in a presentable car and a signature that will stand up if they ring back at eight o'clock.

OVM Ltd, Companies House SC834621. Digital proof of collection and delivery provided. 0141 459 1302.

## You already sold it. Now the door has to work.

OVM drives that car or van on trade plates. Valid MOT. Condition recorded before it leaves your site and again on their drive. Digital proof when the job closes. We are not a transporter. We will not unload a deck on a housing estate and call it a handover.

The hub that splits this from a site transfer is [dealer delivery](https://ovmtransport.com/dealer-delivery). This post is the converting version of the customer-door job: what to put on the booking so the afternoon you promised actually happens.

The deal is done. Finance is cleared. The car is in prep, or still at the wrong roof, or still at auction. Retail handover is only the last mile if the last mile is a person. Everything before that is a different movement and it still has to be legal to drive.

If it is still at BCA, Manheim or Wilsons, that is [auction collection](https://ovmtransport.com/auction-collection) first. Release, then the drive to the customer, or release into your prep and a second job to the door. Do not hide an unreleased lot inside a "customer delivery" note. The gate will not care that someone is waiting at home.

If it is at a sister site, say so. That is still one driven job if we are collecting there and delivering to the buyer. It is not a site transfer, because the person signing is not your duty manager.

The method is a driven [vehicle movement](https://ovmtransport.com/vehicle-movements). The proof the customer and the dealer both need is the same as any other OVM job, walked through on [proof of collection and proof of delivery](https://ovmtransport.com/blog/proof-of-collection-and-proof-of-delivery).

### A person at the door

Not stock. Not a compound. The person signing is the buyer, not your duty manager.

### Release first if it is still at auction

Do not hide an unreleased lot inside a customer delivery note. The gate will not care.

## What the driver is standing in for

Your forecourt. Not a courier.

They need the right person, the right address, a walkaround, keys, whatever documents you told us to carry and a signature on the device. If the buyer is not in, the job is not done. "Leave it on the drive and post the keys" is how you get a complaint and no POD.

Mileage is recorded at both ends. That matters on a retail file more than on a stock swap, because the first call after delivery is often "it had more miles than the advert". The photographs are taken before we use the car as transport, not after a motorway run.

Put on the booking:

- The window you promised them, in clock time, not "afternoon".
- A mobile that they will answer.
- Parking, bays, posts, a tight mews, a van that will not fit the drive.
- Spare keys, charging cable, service pack, number plates if you still have them in the office.
- Whether anyone else is allowed to sign.

### Signature on the device

A drop on a kerb with no name is not a close. The person receiving it signs.

### Photographs before it is used as transport

Mileage and panels recorded before the motorway run, not after.

## Distance does not care about your showroom promise

A customer in the South East and a car in Glasgow is a Nationwide drive, not a taxi from the rooftop. If the window is impossible, the office will say so on the quote. That is cheaper than a driver ringing a buyer you told to stay off work.

Coverage from the Glasgow office is on [how OVM covers the UK from Glasgow](https://ovmtransport.com/coverage). You do not bring the car to us to make the handover "local". Collection is where it sits.

Same-day retail is a different cost shape, because it pulls a driver off other work and the buyer is already emotionally in the car. Planned is calmer. [Same day versus planned](https://ovmtransport.com/blog/same-day-vs-planned-trade-plate-delivery) is the split. Fuel is charged separately. No rate card.

If the vehicle cannot legally be driven, stop. Plates will not get a no-MOT car to a customer's door. Use a transporter, or fix it first. [Trade plate delivery versus a transporter](https://ovmtransport.com/trade-plate-delivery-vs-transporter) is the product choice. Do not ask us to "just run it round, they know it's going to workshop".

## How to book it so sales and the office are on the same job

Use the instant quote . Registration, your postcode, their postcode, date, company, phone, email. First line of notes: retail handover.

Name the buyer. Name the sales person if they want a call when the driver is twenty minutes out. Do not put the showroom switchboard as the only number.

No account needed. Most quotes within the hour during working hours. Call 0141 459 1302 . Email info@ovmtransport.com.

If the buyer changes address after you accept, tell the office before the driver is moving. A new postcode is a new route.

In practice

## A named buyer, a signature. Digital proof of collection and delivery provided

Not a kerbside dump. Walkaround, keys and a signature that will stand up if they ring back later.

 Instant Quote0141 459 1302

Does the driver do a walkaround on a retail handover?

Yes. That is the point of calling it a handover rather than a drop. They introduce the vehicle, go through what you told us to hand over and capture the signature. They do not hold a finance seminar.

What if the customer wants it left with a neighbour?

Say that before we dispatch and name the person who can sign. If we arrive and only a neighbour is there, the driver calls the office. We do not invent a completed delivery.

Can you deliver a van to a customer on plates the same way?

Yes, if it is legal to drive. Tell us it is a van. Height and parking matter more on a drive than they do in your yard. Quote it as the van they bought.

 Do you keep the V5C?

No. On a retail handover the driver talks the customer through it if you have sent it with the car. The file comes back to you with the digital proof. We are not your admin team.

What if finance clears at 3pm and they want it that evening?

Say so on the quote. Same-day may be possible. It may not, depending on where both ends are. We will not promise a window the distance cannot do. Call 0141 459 1302 rather than letting sales text the buyer a time we have not seen.

### Same day versus planned trade plate delivery

Planned is cheaper because it fits a driver's day. Same day costs more because it pulls a driver off other work. The quote on this page is for the actual job, not a rate card.

### What is trade plate delivery?

Trade plate delivery is a driver taking one roadworthy car or van on trade plates from the collection address to the delivery address. Trade plate deliveries are the same product, booked one registration at a time. OVM does that Nationwide for dealers, auction buyers and fleets. Instant quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.
