# How to book a trade plate vehicle movement

A quote is not a booking. A booking is not a driver already on the way. Dealers lose a morning because they treated the form as a shout into a void, then rang at noon asking where the car was. OVM books one roadworthy car or van on trade plates. Registration, both postcodes and a date. Notes so the office does not have to guess the job.

OVM Ltd, Companies House SC834621. Digital proof of collection and delivery provided. 0141 459 1302.

OVM Ltd, 48 West George Street, Glasgow, G2 1BP. Telephone 0141 459 1302.

Need a price?

Registration and both postcodes is usually enough to price it.

## Quote first. Confirm second. Dispatch third.

We are not a transporter. If the vehicle cannot legally be driven, stop before you fill the form.

The widget prices the driven job. You still have to accept it. Until you do, nothing is in a driver's day. That is the bit people skip when they Google how to book trade plate vehicle movements and then expect a collection window from a figure they never came back on.

Most quotes come back within the hour during working hours. No account is needed. Fuel is charged separately. There is no rate card hiding under the form.

Once you accept, the office can place it. Dispatch is later again: keys, a person at collection, a valid MOT and, if it is an auction, a release the compound actually has. Holding a quote while you chase a code is fine. Sending a driver on a hope is not.

The product you are booking is a driven movement. The meaning of that, if anyone on the group still thinks we load a deck, is on [what a driven trade plate vehicle movement actually is](https://ovmtransport.com/vehicle-movements).

### Quote first

The widget prices the driven job. Until you accept it, nothing is in a driver's day.

### Dispatch later

Keys, a person at collection, a valid MOT. Auction work waits for a release the compound actually has.

 [Vehicle movements](https://ovmtransport.com/vehicle-movements)

## What the form actually needs

Registration. Collection postcode. Delivery postcode. Date required. Your name, company, phone and email.

That prices most jobs. It does not brief the driver. Put the rest in the notes, in plain English.

Do not write "vehicle movement" and leave it at that. Time at each end is different. A stock transfer that leaves with a duty manager is not a retail walkaround. An [auction collection](https://ovmtransport.com/auction-collection) is not a lock-up behind a Costa.

If the sending site is BCA, Manheim or Wilsons, say the site, not the brand. Glasgow is not Bellshill. Shotts is not Washington.

- Dealer yard, auction compound, fleet branch, or a named customer door.
- Who can release it and a mobile that rings.
- Who will sign at the far end.
- Auction house and site name if it is a compound, plus the release status.
- Van roof height if it is not a car.
- SORN, low fuel, alarm code, spare keys, charging cable, parking post. [Auction collection](https://ovmtransport.com/auction-collection)

## The three jobs people book as if they were one

Site to site. Auction out. Customer door. Same plates. Different afternoons.

A site transfer needs a manager at both roofs. Unmanned "leave it on the back row" is how you get no signature. A retail handover needs the window you promised the buyer and a person who will actually be in. Auction work needs release confirmed with the compound before anyone is sent. Storage keeps running until the lot leaves. That sequence is already on [auction collection after you buy](https://ovmtransport.com/blog/auction-collection-after-you-buy).

If you are choosing driven against a loaded truck, that decision is not this page. It sits on [trade plate delivery versus a transporter](https://ovmtransport.com/trade-plate-delivery-vs-transporter). Book the product you meant.

### Site or door

A duty manager on the back row is not a retail walkaround. Say which afternoon you booked.

### Auction out

Release confirmed with the compound before anyone is sent. Storage keeps running until the lot leaves.

[Auction collection after you buy](https://ovmtransport.com/blog/auction-collection-after-you-buy)[Driven vs a transporter](https://ovmtransport.com/trade-plate-delivery-vs-transporter)

## What makes the office send it back

No MOT. Will not start. No keys. No named contact. Auction release still "on its way". Delivery to Northern Ireland. A high-roof van quoted as a car. A second registration hidden in the notes.

If the vehicle on site is not as described, the driver stops and we call you. A failed collection is cheaper than an illegal one.

Trade plates do not replace an MOT. The rule is on [can you move a car without an MOT on trade plates](https://ovmtransport.com/blog/can-you-move-a-car-without-an-mot-on-trade-plates).

[Can you move a car without an MOT?](https://ovmtransport.com/blog/can-you-move-a-car-without-an-mot-on-trade-plates)

## Coverage is the two postcodes, not a depot

The office is in Glasgow. The job is Nationwide in England, Scotland and Wales. You do not bring the car to West George Street. Collection is where the vehicle sits. Delivery is where it has to be received. How that model runs is on [how OVM covers the UK from Glasgow](https://ovmtransport.com/coverage).

A Scotland dealer sending stock to an English branch is still one form. Same widget. Both postcodes.

 [Coverage from Glasgow](https://ovmtransport.com/coverage)

## After you accept

The condition record starts before the wheels turn. Panels, mileage, keys, documents. At delivery, the same record plus a signature. You get digital proof of collection and delivery provided when the job closes. That close is walked through on [proof of collection and proof of delivery](https://ovmtransport.com/blog/proof-of-collection-and-proof-of-delivery).

If the date moves, tell the office. Do not assume the driver saw a WhatsApp from the sales manager.

In practice

## A quote is not a booking

The form prices that registration and those postcodes. The job is booked when you accept it and the office has what it needs to dispatch.

How it runs

## What actually happens

Four steps. Most of them are ours rather than yours.

- 01

### Send the registration and both postcodes

Date required, name, company, phone and email. Notes so the office does not guess the job.
- 02

### Accept the quote

Until you accept it, nothing is in a driver's day. A saved figure is not a collection window.
- 03

### We dispatch when the vehicle can leave

Valid MOT, keys, a named person at collection. Auction work waits for a release the compound actually has.

## Common questions

 Instant Quote0141 459 1302

Is the instant quote the booking?

No. The quote is the figure for that registration and those postcodes. The job is booked when you accept it and the office has what it needs to dispatch. A saved quote with no confirmation is not a driver.

Do I need an account or a contract?

No. Dealers, auction buyers and fleets use the same form. Registration and both postcodes is usually enough to price it. Put the job type in the notes so we do not quote a stock transfer as a customer handover.

Can I book several cars on one form?

Each registration is its own driven job. Send the list if you have one. We will quote the units that are legal to drive. We will not pretend six cars are one truck.

What if I only have one postcode because the buyer has not given the other yet?

Then we can talk, but we cannot finish a price. Both ends set the route. Call 0141 459 1302 if the delivery address is still moving. Do not invent a postcode to force a number.

When do you actually send the driver?

When the booking is confirmed, the vehicle is legal to drive and someone can release it. On auction work the compound has the release. Same-day is a different cost shape. That split is on [same day versus planned trade plate delivery](https://ovmtransport.com/blog/same-day-vs-planned-trade-plate-delivery).

### What are trade plate vehicle movements?

Dealers type trade plate vehicle movements when they want one roadworthy car or van driven on plates between two postcodes. That is OVM's work. It is not a loaded truck. The movements hub is the product page. This post explains the search. Instant quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.

### Same day versus planned trade plate delivery

Planned is cheaper because it fits a driver's day. Same day costs more because it pulls a driver off other work. The quote on this page is for the actual job, not a rate card.

### Digital proof of collection and proof of delivery on every job

Every OVM job closes with digital proof of collection and delivery provided. That is how the office and the customer close the job.
