This post is when plates are the right tool for dealer, auction and fleet EVs and when they are not. Trade plates do not replace a valid MOT. An EV going to a workshop, a charging bay or a prep team "to be tested at the other end" is still not legal to drive today if the MOT is missing or expired. If it cannot legally be driven, book a transporter. We will say so. That includes auction EVs. A released lot at BCA, Manheim or Wilsons that will not stand a legal drive is not an OVM collection. It does not run out of "a bit of diesel in a can". If the indicated range will not cover the next legal charging point with a sensible margin, the driver should not leave. Tell the office the state of charge you believe is in the vehicle and whether a cable and a charge card are with the keys. We agree what "enough" looks like for that journey before anyone is dispatched and we plan a charging stop where the route needs one. We do not publish a percentage here, because two registrations on the same corridor are not the same battery, weather or traffic. If the driver arrives at an auction or a dealer compound and the vehicle is too low to move legally and safely, they stop and the office calls you. We do not load it onto a truck. That is a different product. Energy used on the job is charged separately, in the same way fuel is charged separately on a petrol or diesel movement. There is no rate card on this page. ## Cables, cards and the condition record Granny leads, Type 2 cables, adapters and charge cards are part of the vehicle as stock. They get logged at collection with the photographs and checked off at delivery. A missing cable on a dealer to dealer EV is the same class of dispute as a missing second key on a petrol car. The digital proof is how you close it. Mileage still matters. So do panels. An EV can pick up the same yard rash as anything else sitting in a compound. Proof of collection at pickup, proof of delivery at handover, digital proof when the job closes. That close is standard on every OVM job, electric or not. Say it is electric in the notes so charge and cables are on the job, not assumed. Auction buyers collect an EV only after release, same as any other lot. The compound does not care that it is quiet. Fleet and lease EVs are still one unit at a time. A block of de-fleet electrics going the same way on a flexible date may belong on a transporter. A single contract-hire return that has to move this week belongs on plates, if it is legal to drive. Nationwide means England, Scotland and Wales. Charging along that route is planned. Confirm release, then tell the office the indicated range and whether a cable is with the lot. If it cannot legally and safely make the first charging point, it is not this product. A transporter is the right call. Who authorises a charging stop on a long Nationwide job? The office, when the job is planned.
