## The storage-charge race

Storage starts when you buy, not when you remember to arrange collection. Every extra day on the yard is a charge you did not budget when you bid. That is the race.

A loaded truck has to fill a deck going the same way. A driven movement does not. Once release is actually confirmed, a driver can be sent to that compound for that one vehicle. That is the point of using plates rather than waiting for a load.

We still will not dispatch on a hope. A driver at the barrier without a release code, buyer reference, or whatever that site calls the authority to leave, is a wasted journey. The car stays. Storage keeps running. You pay for a day that moved nothing.

Send the release details before you ask us to put someone in a car toward the gate.

## Quote the lot from this page

Registration, compound and both postcodes. Instant quote on this page, or call 0141 459 1302. Add the release code when you have it. Do not send a driver before the site confirms release.

## Release first, then the driver

The sequence is boring on purpose. You buy. You clear payment and whatever the auction needs on the account. The site issues a release code or buyer reference. We check that with the compound, including the gate procedure for that site that day. Then a driver is sent.

Skip the check and you have a man at a barrier arguing with a list he is not on. Auction compounds are not dealer forecourts. They will not let him through because you are in a hurry.

If the lot cannot legally be driven, stop before a driver is sent. Salvage and non-runners are not this product. A transporter is the right tool. We will say so rather than burn a collection slot at a gate that will not release a car onto the public road.

The operational meaning of driven rather than loaded is on [what a driven trade plate vehicle movement actually is](https://ovmtransport.com/vehicle-movements). This page is the compound version of that job.

## BCA, Manheim and Wilsons

Those three are the houses this page is for. Independent auctions exist. We will quote them when the release is real, but we are not going to list a hundred yards and pretend each one was verified in this copy.

BCA. Expect a release process and a gate that will turn a driver away if the paperwork is wrong. We confirm with the site before dispatch. Glasgow buyers using BCA Glasgow sit on the hub page [trade plate vehicle movements in Glasgow](https://ovmtransport.com/vehicle-movements-glasgow).

Manheim. Same rule: buyer reference and gate procedure checked with that compound, not assumed from another Manheim site.

Wilsons. Same product. Release confirmed. Driver collects a roadworthy car or van. Condition recorded before it leaves the yard.

We do not publish made-up collection volumes for any of them. We do not guess opening hours here. The compound tells the office how that day's gate will run.

## What gets recorded at the gate

Auction stock is bought on a description. The description is not the vehicle you receive. The photographs taken before we leave the compound are.

Every panel. Mileage. Notes against that registration. That is the proof of collection. It is the baseline for anything that gets argued about later. Proof of delivery is the signed handover at your site or your buyer's door. Digital proof of collection and delivery provided when the job closes.

The close-of-job paperwork, in order, is on [vehicle collection and delivery with POC and POD](https://ovmtransport.com/vehicle-collection-delivery). Cover on the movement is motor trade road risk, nothing extra claimed here.

If the delivery end is another dealer rather than your own yard, say so on the quote. A [site transfer or a retail handover](https://ovmtransport.com/dealer-delivery) is a different afternoon from leave it on the compound with the night keys.

## How to book an auction collection

Use the instant quote on this page. Registration, compound, collection and delivery postcodes, date required, name, company, phone, email. Add the release code or buyer reference as soon as you have it. Named contacts at both ends.

No account is required to ask. Most quotes come back within the hour during working hours. Fuel is charged separately.

If the car is in Glasgow and the compound is BCA Glasgow or Central Car Auctions, start with the quote anyway. The city-side operating notes are on the Glasgow hub. If you are still deciding whether a driver is even the right product, read [when trade plate delivery is the right move](https://ovmtransport.com/trade-plate-vehicle-delivery) before you burn a release window.

Instant quote. Call 0141 459 1302. Email info@ovmtransport.com. The office is in Glasgow.

## A car or a van off the same compound

One lot. One driver. A car and a van are not the same booking just because they sat in the same row.

Height and weight still matter after release. A van that will not fit the route you assumed is a wasted gate visit. Say it is a van on the quote. Light commercials in. HGVs out.

## Valid MOT at the compound, or it stays

Release is not an MOT. The lot still has to be legal to drive out. If the test is gone, the gate can still release it onto a truck. It will not leave on plates.

We check. The driver does not guess from the catalogue. Salvage stays on a transporter.

## After release, not after the hammer

You bought it. That is not collection authority. Payment clears. The account is in order. Then the site issues the code or buyer reference. Then we ask that compound. Then a driver is sent.

Waiting after the hammer without a release is how storage eats the margin. Waiting for a truck after the lot is actually released is how it eats more. Once the site says it can leave, a driver can go for that one vehicle.

## A driver versus waiting for a transporter

A loaded truck needs a deck going the same way. One released, roadworthy car does not fill that deck. Storage does not pause while it fills.

If the lot cannot legally be driven, there is no choice. Transporter. We will say so. The product that is still a drive is [vehicle movements](https://ovmtransport.com/vehicle-movements). When to book plates at all is [trade plate vehicle delivery](https://ovmtransport.com/trade-plate-vehicle-delivery).

After release, a legal car or van is [Trade Plate Vehicle Movements](https://ovmtransport.com/vehicle-movements), not a loaded truck.

## How long after release before it can leave

Once the compound confirms release and the vehicle is legal, a driver can be sent for that unit. Same-day is a quote, not a promise printed on the hammer email.

The gate hours, the named collector, the keys and the MOT all have to be true. Miss one and the car stays. How the clock is explained without invented hours is on [how long trade plate delivery takes](https://ovmtransport.com/how-long-does-trade-plate-delivery-take).

## What insurance is on an auction collection

Road risk on the drive. From the gate to the handover. We do not invent extra cover because the lot came from BCA or Manheim.

The photographs at the compound are what a later argument uses. Cover without that record is a policy. The explainer is [is trade plate delivery insured](https://ovmtransport.com/is-trade-plate-delivery-insured).

0141 459 1302
How do I get a quote for an auction collection?

Instant quote on this page, or call 0141 459 1302. Send the registration, the compound and both postcodes. Add the release code when you have it. OVM Ltd, 48 West George Street, Glasgow, G2 1BP.

Why do you wait for the release before dispatch?

Because the gate will not let an unreleased lot out. A driver in the compound queue cannot collect it. Storage keeps running. The office confirms the release code, the account and the named collector first. See release code in the glossary.

Which compounds can you collect from?

BCA, Manheim and Wilsons. Independent auctions too, once the lot is released and the vehicle is roadworthy. If your compound is not listed on coverage, still ask. We will not invent a collection we cannot make.

What must be true at the gate besides the release code?

The vehicle has to be drivable with a valid MOT and keys present. The collector name has to match what the auction expects. If any of that fails, the driver stops and the office calls you. We do not force a drive off the compound.

Who pays storage if collection is late?

Storage is charged by the auction, not by OVM. Late collection is usually more expensive than the movement. Book once the lot is released so the driver can get there inside the pickup window. The auction collection checklist is the sequence to follow.

Can you collect a salvage or CAT vehicle if it starts?

No. Starting is not the same as roadworthy. Salvage and non-runners need a transporter. OVM will not send a trade plate driver for that.
