# Auction collection checklist after the hammer

OVM collects after release, on trade plates, not as a transporter. Buying the lot is not the same as being allowed to take it. This checklist is what we actually need to be true before a driver is sent to BCA, Manheim and Wilsons or an independent we publish a page for.

Need a price?

Registration and both postcodes is usually enough to price it.

Jump to the form

## Before you bid

Do this on the catalogue, not at the gate the next morning.

Print the [one-page tick list](https://ovmtransport.com/auction-collection-checklist/print) if you want a printed copy at the compound. Instant quote on this page, or call 0141 459 1302. Registration, the compound and both postcodes is usually enough to price a driven collection. If the lot cannot legally be driven, stop: that is a transporter job. We will say so.

The operational hub for the same work is [auction collection after release](https://ovmtransport.com/auction-collection). If you are choosing plates versus a truck, use [trade plate delivery vs transporter](https://ovmtransport.com/trade-plate-delivery-vs-transporter).

If you would not drive it yourself on a public road, do not book OVM to drive it.

- Is it actually drivable? Starting on the video is not the same as being legal to drive out. Read the condition report for brakes, steering, leaks, warning lights, missing keys and non-runner or for spares language.
- Valid MOT? OVM will not drive a car or van without a valid MOT where one is required. If the listing is unclear, [check MOT status on GOV.UK](https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status) against the registration before you raise a paddle.
- Keys? No keys is often a compound delay and sometimes a non-start. If keys are missing, treat collection as unconfirmed until the site says otherwise.
- Hold and release. Who releases the vehicle? On what? A sale invoice is not a release code. Know whether the site releases on account, on cleared funds, or only after a cooling-off or title check.
- Who pays storage after the hammer? Storage is the auction's charge, not OVM's. It runs until the vehicle leaves. Read that site's own terms for when the free period ends. We will not invent a daily rate here.
- Driven or loaded? If it is salvage, has no MOT, will not start, or the compound will not release it for a driven exit, you need a transporter. Do not bid as if a trade plate driver can magic that away.

## Check it on GOV.UK, not on a screenshot

A catalogue line is not a certificate. Check the MOT yourself on [check MOT status](https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status). You need the registration.

Trade plates are a DVLA product. Start at the [GOV.UK trade licence overview](https://www.gov.uk/trade-licence-plates). Duty and how to apply sit on [apply for a trade licence](https://www.gov.uk/trade-licence-plates/apply). The first-licence form is [VTL301](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vtl301-application-for-a-first-trade-licence).

OVM already holds plates. You do not post VTL301 to book a collection. What DVLA charges for the licence is [trade plate licence cost](https://ovmtransport.com/trade-plate-licence-cost). That is not a movement quote.

## After you buy

Four things have to be true before we dispatch. Missing any one of them is how a collection becomes a wasted journey and another day of storage.

1. Release code, or that site's equivalent. The compound issues a release code, a buyer reference, or both. Send us what you have. The office checks it with the site. We do not send a driver to see if it is ready. If the code has not come through, we hold the booking.

2. Payment. Pay the auction. OVM is not the cashier. A movement booking is not proof you have settled the lot. Until the site says the vehicle can leave, there is nothing for a driver to collect.

3. Named collector. Most compounds will not release to a stranger at the barrier. Tell the site that OVM is collecting. We brief the driver with OVM identification, trade plates and whatever that gate asked for that day. If the site needs the collector named on the release, name us before the driver sets off, not while they sit in the lane.

4. Pickup window. The compound sets the window, not us. Hours change. Sale days differ from collection days. Some sites will not release after a cut-off. We ask the compound what they need that day. A driver after the window is another night in the yard. If you only have a same-day slot, say so when you quote: same-day collection is priced for the disruption. It is still subject to release being confirmed first.

Also send: registration, compound name, collection and delivery postcodes, a date, a phone number and a named contact who can answer if the gate calls. Most quotes come back within the hour during working hours. No account is needed to ask.

## Compound notes

Each operator runs its own gate. Each site does too. We ask the compound. We do not invent a single procedure here. We do not publish fake weekly volumes. Nationwide compounds are in scope if the vehicle is legal to drive. If your site is not listed on the hub, ask.

BCA. OVM collects from the BCA compounds we publish pages for, including BCA Glasgow, BCA Bellshill, BCA Edinburgh, BCA Livingston, BCA Crawley, BCA Measham, BCA Walsall and BCA Donington Park, plus the rest of the BCA list on [auction collection](https://ovmtransport.com/auction-collection). What is the same at every BCA job we take: release confirmed with the site before dispatch, a named collector, a roadworthy car or van with a valid MOT, photographs before the engine starts. What is not the same: the gate procedure that day. The office asks BCA. The driver does not guess at the barrier.

Manheim. OVM collects from the Manheim compounds we publish, including Manheim Manchester, Manheim Shotts, Manheim Leeds, Manheim Washington, Manheim Haydock and the other Manheim pages on the hub. Same rule as BCA. Buyer reference and release, confirmed with that Manheim site, then a driver. Do not assume a Manheim procedure you used last month still applies this week. We ask.

Wilsons. OVM collects from the Wilsons Auctions compounds we publish: Wilsons Auctions Glasgow (Dalry), Wilsons Auctions Newcastle (Birtley), Wilsons Auctions Maidstone, Wilsons Auctions Telford, Wilsons Auctions Queensferry, Wilsons Auctions Newport and Wilsons Auctions Witney. Wilsons is not BCA and not Manheim. The gate still wants a release and a named collector. We confirm with that Wilsons site, then collect. Roadworthy only.

Independents we publish pages for follow the same pattern. The hub is the list, not this paragraph.

## What gets photographed before the engine starts

Auction stock is bought on a description. The record has to start at the compound, not at your forecourt.

That is the proof of collection. At delivery the same record is taken again and the person receiving the vehicle signs. Digital proof of collection and delivery provided, emailed when the job closes.

If the lot is not as described, or is not safe to drive, the driver stops and calls the office. We do not see how it goes on the public road.

- Every panel, including obvious existing marks
- The mileage reading
- Condition notes against that registration
- Keys and any documents that are meant to travel with the vehicle

## The storage-charge race

A bought vehicle starts costing money the moment it sits in the compound. Storage does not pause because the release code has not arrived yet, a transporter is still filling a deck, a driver was sent without paperwork and turned away, or you are waiting until next week because the truck is cheaper on paper.

For a single released, roadworthy unit, a driven collection once the site says yes is how you stop the clock. Waiting for a truck to fill can cost more than the move. That comparison belongs on [trade plate delivery vs transporter](https://ovmtransport.com/trade-plate-delivery-vs-transporter). We will not invent a storage tariff or a transport price to prove it.

OVM does not dispatch on a hope. Holding the booking until release is confirmed is cheaper than a wasted day plus another night of storage.

## Stop if it is not roadworthy

This is the line. If any of the following is true, do not send a trade plate driver.

Tell us. We will say a transporter is the right tool. Driving it would invalidate the cover the movement depends on. A driver who arrives and cannot collect for reasons outside our control may still attract the full fee.

Valid MOT, drivable, released, named collector, window confirmed: that is an OVM job.

- No valid MOT where one is required
- Will not start, will not steer, or you would not trust the brakes
- Salvage, category write-off, or unfinished repair
- Untaxed when tax is required, or not legal for the public highway
- The compound will not release it for a driven exit
- Height or weight a driver cannot take on the road
- Northern Ireland (OVM does not cover it) [Print the one-page tick list](https://ovmtransport.com/auction-collection-checklist/print)[Instant quote for a driven movement](https://ovmtransport.com/)[Send registration and both postcodes](https://ovmtransport.com/contact)

 Instant Quote0141 459 1302

Should I use this checklist before I bid or after the hammer?

Both. Before you bid: is it drivable, does it have a valid MOT, are the keys there, who pays storage. After you buy: release, payment, named collector, pickup window.

 Can I print it?

Yes. There is a one-page tick list a buyer can print and take to the compound. Same sequence as this page.

What if the lot is not roadworthy when we get there?

Stop. Tell the buyer. Do not send a trade plate driver to fail at the gate. That job needs a transporter. When a trade plate driver beats a transporter. When it does not. That is the decision page.

Does OVM collect from every compound named on the checklist?

The checklist names BCA, Manheim and Wilsons as the groups the office already works with. If a site is new to us, ask before you assume a collection. Auction collection after release is the booking page.

Why is storage on the checklist at all?

Because a late collector often costs more than the driven move. The checklist exists to get the vehicle out after release, not to sit on charge. Storage is the auction's bill, not OVM's fee.

### What trade plate delivery costs and how the quote is built

OVM does not publish a rate card for trade plate delivery. The quote is the driven job: distance on the actual route, the vehicle, wait or release at collection and whether it is same-day or planned. There are no made-up pound figures on this page. Two postcodes start it. Instant quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.

### How long trade plate delivery takes

A trade plate delivery is usually next working day Nationwide once the car or van is ready and the release is done. Same day is possible on shorter runs if a driver can reach an open gate. The clock starts when the unit can leave, not when the quote is sent. Quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.

### Is trade plate delivery insured?

Yes. Trade plate delivery with OVM is insured: motor trade road risk while the vehicle is driven on our plates. Condition is photographed before it moves. You do not add our driver to your own policy. Instant quote on this page or call 0141 459 1302.

### When a trade plate driver beats a transporter. When it does not

Trade plate delivery beats a transporter when the car or van is roadworthy with a valid MOT and needs to leave now, not wait for a deck. A transporter is a loaded truck. Use plates when the unit is legal to drive and has to leave without waiting for a deck. Use a truck when it cannot be driven or several units travel as one load. Quote here or call 0141 459 1302.
